What is a home warranty?

A home warranty is a service contract, usually covering one year, which helps protect homeowners against the cost of unexpected covered repairs or replacement on their major systems and appliances that break down due to normal wear and tear.*

Is coverage through AHS available everywhere?

Almost. American Home Shield home warranties are currently available in 49 states (not available in Alaska), including the District of Columbia.

What is Basic Coverage?

Generally, basic coverage for a home under 5,000 square feet, regardless of age includes the home's heating, plumbing, electrical system, water heater and major appliances, such as range/oven/cooktop, dishwasher, garbage disposal, etc.* Home warranties are available for homes that are over 5,000 square feet for an additional fee.

What happens when a covered system or appliance breaks down?

Customers call our 24-hour toll-free number, 1-800-735-4663 or visit our Web site www.ahsservice.com, to request service. We will then dispatch the work order to a contractor to perform the service call. The contractor will then call the customer during normal business hours to set up a mutually convenient appointment time.

Do I collect anything from the home owner?

Yes, there is a trade service call fee due when the technician comes to the home.* The trade service call fee is for each visit by a service technician.* Additional charges may apply to specific repairs and replacements.*
